Behind the scenes with Madison’s media

PRSA members and guests tour Channel 3000 and Madison Magazine

On Wednesday, Oct. 29, PRSA Madison members and guests got an exclusive look inside two trusted local media outlets during a special behind-the-scenes tour at Channel 3000 and Madison Magazine on Raymond Road.

The event began with an introduction to Madison Magazine Editor Andrea Behling, who shared insights into the magazine’s editorial process and introduced her talented team. Members then met the News 3 Now Call for Action team, which works daily to help viewers solve consumer challenges and navigate tricky situations.

Next, attendees were invited into the newsroom to watch a live broadcast of the noon news, anchored by Josh Spreiter and meteorologist Jacob Montesano. Between on-air segments, Josh explained how he prepares for each broadcast, offering a candid look at the fast-paced world of live television.

Following the broadcast, guests enjoyed lunch and a lively panel discussion featuring Andrea Behling, Josh Spreiter, Scot Chastain (General Manager, Morgan Murphy Media), Ross Lytle (Creative Services Director) and Michael Truett (Interim News Director). The panelists shared valuable insights on how to pitch stories effectively, what types of news they seek and how PR professionals can make their jobs easier. They also discussed deadlines, newsroom workflows and the evolving role of AI in media production.

The event offered PRSA Madison members a rare glimpse into how local stories are created and shared across platforms—from print to broadcast to digital.

A big thank-you to the Morgan Murphy Media team for welcoming us and sharing their expertise to help strengthen connections between Madison’s PR and media communities.
